Archaeological Museum of Sparta

 

The Archaeological Museum of Sparta hosts thousands findings from the province of Lacedaemon and from other areas of Laconia such as Gythio and Neapoli. The exhibits are from the Neolithic period to the late Roman period. Some of the most important exhibits are from the sanctuaries of Sparta.  Visitors of the museum are able to admire findings of the most important prehistoric sites in Laconia, sculptures from the Archaic period to the Roman period, which are from various parts of the county, as well as findings from excavations among which the sections of mosaic floors of the Roman period from Sparta. Finally, the museum's exhibition includes inscriptions which illuminate some aspects of the history of Sparta.
